Οι πολύπειροι Γερμανοί DARK SKY μιλούν στο Pyramis News

How did Dark Sky come together as a band, and what was the vision you all shared from the beginning? Has that vision evolved?

Hello Pyramis Magazine, the original band Dark Sky was formed by a group of students who wanted to emulate their idols Judas Priest, Scorpions and Bon Jovi in the 80s. Back then we all wanted to be rock stars and of course almost nothing has changed in this vision, ha, ha, ha. Joking aside, we just want to make good melodic metal in the new line-up and progress step by step so that we can one day rock the stages at the biggest rock festivals in the world.

Are there any particular stories or personal experiences that have significantly influenced your recent songs?

In any case, the pandemic period has inspired us a lot, to put it positively. During this time, it was not only musicians and artists who were victims of the radical measures taken by governments. We expressed these impressions and feelings in the title song Signs Of The Time, for example.

How do you approach creating a cohesive experience across an album? Do you follow a central theme, or is each track intended to stand on its own?

Actually, a bit of both 😉 As described above, we had a fairly central theme for the current album, but of course we also have very personal tracks that have a clear message independent of this theme or reflect memories and feelings. For example, It’s Not The End is very sad but also connected with hope when it comes to saying goodbye to a loved one. Or St. Tropez, a track that catapults us back to our crazy youth.

What’s the most memorable show Dark Sky has ever played? Do you have any fun or crazy stories from being on tour?

I think the most memorable show for me was supporting the Scorpions in Colmar (France), when the fans celebrated us as if we were the headliner when we came on stage, that was an overwhelming feeling. There are no crazy stories on tour… ha, ha, ha. Well, none that you should tell everyone 😉 I can only say this, when you are on the road with your band, there is a lot to laugh about, and sometimes there are also moments when you would rather be somewhere else entirely. The singer of a headliner band once said to me in the nightliner: «Sometimes you feel like you are on a toilet tour on the road.» And he meant the routines. You drive to the location and look for food, drink and toilets, after the show you look for food, drink and toilets. The next morning you’re in the next city and location and it starts all over again, ha, ha, ha.

Do you have a favorite song to perform live, and why does it stand out to you?

Well, actually we really like playing some songs live. There are of course songs you prefer to play more than others, it’s just because some songs work particularly well for you on stage. A song like Signs Of The Time, for example, has an irresistible groove, or a song like Cute Little Lies just rattles along and rocks. Yes, I love playing our songs live for the audience!

Have you experimented with any new elements or surprises in recent performances? How do you keep the live experience fresh for both you and your audience?

Of course we always try to integrate new things into the shows. After a new album, we think about which new songs we will present, we consider whether we should change anything about our stage presence and our outfit. It is really exciting and of course exciting to see how the audience reacts to it.

The music industry has changed so much with streaming and social media. How does Dark Sky approach connecting with fans online?

OK, that has actually become a big field of activity. As a band, you can’t really do it alone anymore, because being present in online media has become very important. In fact, it has become easier but also more difficult. On the one hand, you can create a lot of excitement and generate attention with posts and reels, but on the other hand, the income from selling physical products like CDs drops so much that you as a band are missing out on sales. So having contact with fans is great, but unfortunately that doesn’t mean that you’re commercially successful.

Outside of music, what are some of your favorite hobbies or interests? Is there anything fans would be surprised to learn about you?

Besides music, we all have our interests, but we usually don’t have enough time for them. Guitarist Kevin, for example, is an excellent boxer, I also love endurance sports and am also an ice hockey fan. None of us has a really unusual hobby, but just ask us what crazy jobs we have done to earn a living 😉

What’s the last song or artist you each had on repeat?

For me it was Beast in Black and also Kissin Dynamite, who we have been friends with since their early years and who we played with again at a festival in the summer.

If Dark Sky weren’t a band, what do you think each of you would be doing instead?

Ha, ha, ha…. that’s an interesting question that I can only answer honestly for myself. I think I would have studied geography and would be working for an environmental organization trying to protect the flora and fauna from humans 😉 or I would be an engineer and would be making the streets safer, ha, ha, ha!

Thanks for your questions and hopefully we see us sometime somewhere on tour!!
