Shaped and inspired by the gothic aesthetic, with its artwork colored black and purple, the “Love, Death & Flies” is the most recent release by the Barbara Black. While the album is not a 2022 release and has a couple of years in the scene, the “Love, Death & Flies” is a unique sounding work that deserves the fans’ attention, even after two years.

Balancing between the hard rock and the metal sound, Barbara Black produces a work with powerful and electrified sound. The blend of the rock ‘n’ roll with the metal has always been successful, and the Barbara Black follows that recipe presenting an album vibrant and exciting.

The sound may remind slightly of Motorhead, since they were one of the most famous bands that mixed the metal with the rock ‘n’ roll into an explosive result. Barbara Black laid this musical blend as their foundation and tried building upon it by experimenting slightly and infusing her music with different genres like gospel, heavy metal, American rock, southern blues licks and even some industrial elements that add an interesting texture to the overall sound. Also, the eerie soundscapes in the background create a haunting and mysterious feeling that fits perfectly to the gothic aesthetic that the “Love, Death & Flies” presents.

While at first thought and sight this blend might seem a bit strange and unconventional, in the “Love, Death & Flies” there is no lack of musical cohesion. Barbara Black takes a risk and successfully manages to present a record unique sounding that has a solid body of ideas.

Like the musical influences, notable, also, are the lyrical themes from which Barbara Black draws inspiration. In the “Love, Death & Flies”, the Edgar Allan Poe and Gustavo Alfonso Becquer, the 80’s horror cinema, the Victorian dark alleys and romance, blend and meet with a fast paced, vibrant, vivid and exciting sound that combines the best traces of the rock ‘n’ roll and the metal.
